Most potting soils and fertilizer schedules come from the idea that nutrients must be in salt forms to be soluble. But the most productive ecosystems in nature have very little if any at all, soluble salts in their soil water profiles. And rightly so, for if these natural areas needed fertilizing, they would not exist. Nature evolved mechanisms to provide plants with nutrients without the need for intense erosion to provide them.

We inoculate our soil with the finest worm castings to ensure the most diverse and robust microbial community. Our scoria has the largest surface area of any commercially available volcanic rock. It weighs less than pumice, keeping the oxygen and water levels in the soil high and giving plenty of homes to your microbes. We use a variety of different carbon sources to ensure a consistent carbon sink and prevent pores from clogging.

Mineral inputs lie at the heart of our belief in sustained plant fertility. Using minerals keeps the electrical conductivity low, which microbes do well in. By letting microbes control solubility, plants take up nutrient complexes which give them a head start on metabolism. Minerals also last longer than powdered meal blends other soil brands use. Using conventional amendments you get a boost of nutrients that may last one life cycle. With our soil, the need for adjustments when reusing mixes is all but eliminated. Bringing it together, our soil focuses on establishing a large cation exchange capacity. This keeps nutrients in your soil instead of in your runoff water. We partly achieve this by our choice of clay and biochar. When clay and carbon come together, your soil becomes truly alive. This symbiosis turns soil from weathering rock and compost into a superorganism that can move nutrients without water saturation.
